Stenciled: Day 2

Today's class was about using your stencils as templates. I was very inspired by Kristina Warner and Julia Embersole's cards and techniques today. So I made a card using a mix of both of their techniques.

I used a floral stencil as a template and I sponged green and blue Distress Inks into my card, creating the background. I did the same thing on the strip of Kraft paper, but instead of using ink I used a white paint.

On the vellum I stamped the sentiment in white embossing powder and then coloured over it using Copic markers. I mimicked the blue and green fading into each other like I did in the background. To add a little bit more to the vellum strip I used a Versamark pen to traced/coloured in the peddles and then heat embossed them in white as well. Now you can see some peddles showing through the vellum and some sitting ontop of the vellum.

I did a similar thing on the inside of the card, except I was much lighter with the sponging/colours.

Stenciled: Day 1

Hello everyone!! It has been almost two month since I posted on my blog. Hope everyone had a wonder Christmas and is off to a great start in the new year. I went home to Calgary for Christmas and had an amazing time with my family and friends. Then after coming back to LA I quickly unpacked and repacked for my trip to CHA. I don't live that far from Anaheim, but the group that I was going with didn't want to bother with two hour drive to and from CHA each day, so we got hotel rooms and stayed by the convention center. It was my very first time at CHA and boy was I overwhelmed by all the companies and amazing products. I had such a blast, but unfortunately when I returned home my phone decided to delete all of my pictures since October 2013. So all of my pictures from the holidays and the CHA are gone. How sad is that...???

Anywho, enough with the updates and let's get back on topic... I am taking the newest Online Card Classes called Stenciled. On Day 1, we were shown different inking and masking techniques, and I made a card that was inspired by Debby Hughes and Laura Bassen. I really enjoyed working on this card and I plan on giving it to my uncle for his birthday. This is a very special birthday for him because he just became a grandpa a few days ago. How wonderful is that??

I used a chevron stencil and embossing technique on the background. The tag was made from 40lb vellum with some washi tape at the bottom.

The sentiment was made from three different stamps. I placed them all on the same stamp block and stamped them all at once. I used white embossing powder for the entire sentiment and then I went over the happy and birthday with a red Copic marker.

On the inside of the card I blended two Distress Inks together and added the same washi tapes at the tag on the front of the card.

Now I just have to write a sweet birthday message and then off it goes into the mailbox.
